Overview
Ultra-lightweight 7-DoF (also sold as 6-DoF) research and mobile-manipulation arm from Kinova (Canada). Smart actuators with integrated torque sensors, 1 kHz low-level control, endless joint rotation and an open Kortex API (C++, Python, MATLAB, ROS 1 and 2). Optional integrated 2D/3D vision module. Weighs 8.2 kg (7-DoF) and runs from a 24 V supply at 36 W average, so it is widely mounted on mobile bases and wheelchairs.

- Payload (without gripper, in motion, per Kinova's 2026 one-pager): 2.0 kg at full range and 4.0 kg at mid range, for both 6-DoF and 7-DoF. specs.payload_kg holds the 4 kg mid-range figure.
- Maximum reach 891 mm (6-DoF) and 902 mm (7-DoF); weight 7.2 kg and 8.2 kg; maximum Cartesian translation speed 50 cm/s (0.5 m/s, i.e. 1.8 km/h).
- Supply 18-30 VDC (24 V nominal), average power 36 W, IP33, operating temperature -30 to 35 C, two 100 Mbps Ethernet ports for internal communication.
- Control: 1 kHz control loop; low-level position, velocity, motor current and torque; high-level Cartesian position/velocity, joint position/velocity and wrench.
- API / software compatibility listed by Kinova: Windows 10, Ubuntu Linux, ROS Noetic and ROS 2 Humble; Gazebo and MoveIt simulation; C++, Python and MATLAB (Simulink packages).
- Kinova publishes no list price: its Gen3 product page is JavaScript-rendered and the datasheet has none. The 6-DoF price comes from the Unchained Robotics reseller page (EUR, converted at the ECB rate); Generation Robots shows only a family 'from' price and Vention a gripper bundle, so neither is used as a price; a RobotShop US listing was not readable (blocked) and is not used.
- Launch year is left empty: no fetched Kinova page states when Gen3 was first sold.
